Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan renounce their Royal title

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle have decided to step back as working members of the royal family. They will no longer use their royal titles and receive public funding. The couple made an abrupt announcement about their plans to step back from their royal duties.     Though a civil agreement, it is one of the most dramatic events in the British Royal Family since King Edward VIII abdicated the throne to marry an American woman. The couple has planned to spend majority of the time outside Britain, in The United States. They will not have their royal privileges but will continue to carry the titles of Dutch and Duchess of Sussex. Harry will remain the Prince and sixth in succession. The couple will be able to earn money from private sectors and will be financially independent.

The Queen has reluctantly accepted their desire to break away from the family’s heritage and start their own future. The British media has pronounced the agreement as “hard Brexit’ as the couple’s split from the royal family has been more severe than expected. Under the terms of the agreement the couple will no longer use their privileged titles, ‘His Royal Highness’ and ‘Her Royal Highness’ and will forgo public funding for their activities. Prince Harry will have to give up his Military Titles.

However, the Prince will retain his connection to being the support to the Invictus Games which is the global sports event for the wounded and sick service members which was founded by him in 2014. The couple has made it clear that they will no longer take part in the royal Rota and will stay away.
