Genes Lecoanet Hemant, the premium ready-to-wear designer label founded by Indo-French couturiers Didier Lecoanet and Hemant Sagar, introduces its latest Spring Summer 2025 collection, ‘Dreams’. The collection is titled after a 1990 Akira Kurosawa movie with the same name. The Japanese masterpiece builds on the element of the subconscious, with each of its 8 vignettes weaving a uniquely magical realistic saga. For summer, Genes treads a similar line. Of whimsy and wonder, of the blurred space between reality and fantasy.

“Eccentricity is often misunderstood, and this season, we wanted to explore it more deeply,” adds artistic director & co-founder Didier Lecoanet . “The clothes challenge existing norms and invite people to express themselves boldly, to see beauty in the unusual and to feel empowered by it. Here, craft meets practicality in silhouettes that have a point of view”.
The collection is a visual spectacle with vibrant surface design and playful silhouettes without surrendering the tactile sumptuousness of clothing. These are fabrics to live life in, meticulously picked and cut for comfort and longevity. An Anemone print is a hazy interpretation of larger than life flowers – a subtle nod to the talking flowers in Lewis Caroll’s Alice in Wonderland. A distorted garden print is like a moment stolen from a dream, vague and striking all at once. A palette of refreshing hues, all intuitively paired together achieves that sort of inexplicable quality that childhood dreams are made of. A crisp naivety and innocence as an antidote to the times we live in.
For women, silhouettes are relaxed yet striking—layered slip dresses over t-shirt structures, breezy kaftans with shoelace-inspired tie-ups, and linen jumpsuits, with corsetry strings at the back. Three-dimensional embroideries, iridescent sequined flowers, and playing card motifs are all evidence of the Lecoanet Hemant couture heritage.
Menswear, too, embraces a sense of playfulness. Graffiti mosaics of one-liners and sketchy rabbit motifs bring life to jersey tees and sleeveless vests, while cotton pique polos, twill shorts, and poplin chessboard shirts balance structure with whimsy. The Labyrinth print, graces Giza cotton shirts in Nile green and sky blue. Ruffle details subtly challenge traditional menswear norms, proving that imagination has no boundaries.
