Celebrity and fashion photographer Venkat Raman, recreated 12 stunning paintings by the legendary and renowned painter Ravi Varma to magnificent photos for his 2020 Calendar. The calendar is exclusively dedicated to women empowerment and also to NAAM, a charitable trust founded by actress Suhasini Mani Ratnam. Leading South actresses turned muse for Ravi Varma’s artistic works.
Shruthi Hasaan has been featured twice in the calendar, as ‘Rani of Kurupam’ and ‘Radha in ‘Moonlight’. Actress Samantha appears as an “expectant mother holding a fruit symbolic of a new life”. Kollywood actress, Aishwarya Rajesh portrays a “a high-minded woman, the Rani of Pudukkottai” and Khushboo Sundar is featured as a “Maharashtrian lady after a temple visit”. Venkat Raman recreates the paintings with impeccable precision and detailing. The actresses are seen wearing the same clothes and jewellery as the originals. The recreation of the paintings is so close to perfect that it is hard to tell which is the photograph. Ramya was seen recreating the painting of Damayanti dressed in a red sari, seen talking to a swan. The photographs were so accurate that their expressions and postures were exactly the same. Malayalam actresses Lissy Lakshmi and Nadia also posed for the calendar.
The actresses took to Twitter and other social media handles to procure their joy of being able to recreate the renowned artist’s paintings and to be a part of the calendar. Bringing art to life, costume stylist Amrita Ram and make-up artist Sadhna Ram have given importance to classical beauty to make the stars resemble the models on the paintings and have done an amazing job.
