Uber Eats is now part of Zomato
Zomato, the online food delivery and restaurant discovering app has acquired the Indian Operations of Uber Eats. Uber Eats will not function as a sperate brand locally. While users use the app, they will be redirected to Zomato’s app. The delivery partners who were associated with Uber Eats will now be a part of the Zomato’s fleet. This is considered as one of the biggest steps towards a consolidation for the Indian Foodtech market.
Zomato has become an undisputed market leader in the food delivery category in India. In Foodtech business what is most vital is the number of delivery partners. The consumers are satisfied with faster delivery, which means there has to be a greater number of people out there on the streets delivering at their fastest and best capacity. Thus, by acquiring Uber Eats, Zomato has been able to gain more delivery partners which in turn has given them a higher credibility in the market. They currently have around two lakh delivery partners which is slightly more than their rival Foodtech Business App, Swiggy.
According to reports, the strength of Uber eats delivery network will pave way for the growth of Zomato in entire South India. This allows them to compete more fiercely with Swiggy. This has been a major strategy of consolidation for rapid scalable growth.
