World Kiss Day, celebrated on the 6th of July every year, originated in the United Kingdom in the early 2000s. It is a day to commemorate the simple pleasures associated with kissing. It is also known as International Kissing Day. There are approximately 50 different types of kisses including the French kiss, Forehead kiss, Smooch, Butterfly kiss and many more. A kiss can be a way of expressing love for one another or a way of greeting each other, which is done in different ways in different countries. The kiss can be a way of showing affection to each other like the love of a mother to the child, a lover’s kiss, or a friend’s kiss. It is differentiated into different forms like the expression of love, kiss of peace, kiss of religion, kiss of friendship, kiss of respect and a romantic kiss. 
The way of greeting people is by a kiss in many countries depending on their cultures. Cheek kissing is most common in Europe and Latin America. Cheek kissing is the most common way of greeting in The United States and in Europe. Whereas in Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Russia, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Poland and Lebanon, it is customary to “kiss three times, on alternate cheeks.” 
Italian and Hungarians kiss twice in a greeting and only in Mexico. Whereas it is not unusual for men to kiss one another on the nose after a handshake. French culture expects a kiss on the cheek and three kisses or four kisses exchanged in the province of France. Kissing quickly on the lips with the mouth closed is a common greeting in some places of Western culture such as South Africa. 
Types of Kisses
- Air Kiss
Air Kiss also known as Blow Kiss is a social gesture whose meaning is basically the same as that of many forms of kissing. The lips are pursed as if kissing but without touching.
- Cheek Kiss
Cheek kiss is usually the gesture to indicate friendship, love, and greeting or even to comfort someone. It is also the way to greet people in different countries.
- Forehead Kiss
Forehead kiss, a way to symbolize acknowledgement and grievance on the part of the person being kissed.
- Wedding Kiss
Wedding Kiss, is a custom of concluding a nuptial ceremony for the newlyweds. This custom is predicted to have begun in Rome, as a way to seal the contractual agreement with a martial union.
- Nose Kiss/ Eskimo Kiss
Nose kiss/ Eskimo Kiss is generally the rub of the nose, usually interpreted as a friendly greeting gesture in various cultures. In a few regions it is also known as Kunik.
- Text Kiss
Text Kiss, a way of showing one’s love through messaging. It is trending with the millennials and is a way of showing gestures of friendship, love etc.
- Peck
Peck or the casual kiss is a light quick kiss to showcase one’s affection towards other. A peck usually lasts for upto 4 seconds or less.
- French kiss
A French kiss, also known as a deep kiss or a tongue kiss. It is also known as the “kiss with the tongue” as it stimulates the partner’s lips, tongue and mouth, which are sensitive.
World Kiss Day, celebrated to enhance the love and affection between people and is also considered an unofficial holiday in the United Kingdom.
