Maikada Launches ‘City on the Rocks’ — A Concept-Driven Cocktail Menu Inspired by Mumbai’s Cultural Fabric

Mumbai: In a bold new chapter for Mumbai’s bar culture, Maikada — tucked inside The Shalimar Hotel at Kemps Corner — is shaking things up with its latest cocktail programme: City on the Rocks. More than just drinks, this narrative-driven menu rewires classic mixology with a dose of nostalgia, bottling the spirit of Mumbai’s iconic neighbourhoods into every glass. With this, Maikada doesn’t just serve cocktails — it offers a sensory map of the city, redefining what it means to drink locally.

Curated in collaboration with Good Times & Co., the new menu pays homage to six of Mumbai’s most iconic locales — Dadar Market, Chor Bazaar, Kala Ghoda, Juhu Beach, the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, and of course, Maikada’s own backyard: Kemps Corner. Each cocktail comes to life through a physical card handed to guests — part invitation, part provocation — pairing emotional cues (think nostalgia, chaos, comfort, impulse) with bold flavour profiles (floral, spiced, nutty, citrusy, toasty). These cards aren’t just descriptions — they’re a tactile gateway into the city’s spirit, with a blind tasting twist that lets the story lead the sip.

This isn’t just a cocktail menu — it’s a spirited ode to the city. Designed for those who like their drinks bold, clean, and conversation-worthy, the City on the Rocks programme champions spirit-forward cocktails that don’t hide behind garnish or gimmick. Think thoughtful pairings, big local flavours, and just enough restraint to let the base spirit shine. Flagship serves like Horn Ok Please (vodka with a ghati masala-honey cordial) and Aam-chi 36 (a tequila riff with mango, agave, and tajin) reflect Maikada’s ethos: drinks that feel familiar, taste elevated, and hit exactly where they should — home.

Lost Found

To round out the cocktail experience, Maikada serves up a crisp edit of small plates that reinterpret regional comfort food with just the right amount of flair. Think Mini Vada Pav amped up with a zingy pudina chutney, Chicken Tikka glazed in a mango-mustard lacquer that’s all smoke and tang, and Beetroot Sliders crowned with candied orange for a hit of earthy-sweet contrast. Each dish is designed to play nice with the drinks — flavour-forward, familiar, and built to share.

I’ve always wanted a bar that felt like Mumbai — loud in flavour, soft in the right corners, and never boring,” says Yash Advani, founder of Maikada and third-generation behind the Shalimar legacy. “City on the Rocks captures the city as we know it — not filtered or polished, but complex and full of soul. It’s chaotic. It’s home — just served with better ice. This is real, it’s raw, and it’s unapologetically ours..”, says Yash Advani, Founder Maikada, The Shalimar Hotel.

As Mumbai’s bar scene evolves, Maikada raises the bar with City on the Rocks — a concept-first experience that serves culture, not just cocktails. Rooted in local flavour and smart design, it’s a bold blueprint for what the city’s next-gen bars could be.
