Established in 1988, the place has always been an old-school favourite meet-up place. If you’ve studied at St. Joseph’s, Baldwin’s, Bishop Cotton’s, Bangalore International School, Sri Aurobindo Memorial School, or any of the old schools of Bangalore or Bengaluru, you’ve definitely visited with your friends, boyfriends, or girl friends. Often, it was considered the best hangout joint, a place where you would find people bunking up and chilling, a place where you could relax after school, and there are so many memories attached to the brand. The place had a different vibe then, and now it has completely changed. As you enter, you feel like you are entering Scotland, UK. The interiors are painted to perfection, and every inch speaks loudly of the fresh new vibe. The prices of the place are the same; it costs 800 for two without alcohol. The items on the menu are pretty decent and reasonably priced. It will definitely not burn a hole in your pocket, so you can chill and relax for longer. The Scottish Pub has been an institution for Bangalore for a while. As the nostalgia hits in, its time to go back and revisit the memory lane. A client says “My husband and I would visit Scottish as a couple at least thrice a week when we were studying at St. Joseph’s Arts and Science in 1992. It was one of our favourite places to hang out at. Today, we visited there after 30 years with our teenage sons, It felt absolutely fabulous. Nothing’s changed and that’s the beauty of it. Fantastic beer and some yummy finger foods. The good old cheese, cherry, pineapple was great. Also tried the chicken pakoda, chilli chicken, egg pakoda and finger chips which were very good. Some of the old staff were around and we reminisced about ‘the good old days.’ All in all a memorable experience and we’ll definitely be going back for more. “

On the 14th of May, Lushly hosted their Curated Treasures flea at Pebble, Bangalore. It being Mother’s Day was an added bonus that we just loved to celebrate. The flea was in full swing from 11:00am to the late evening. This time Lushly had about 35+ vendors that participated, showcasing products that included Hemp oils and serums, designer products from Kolkata & Mumbai, baked goods, skincare products and more. Lushly also had included two workshops; pottery and an arts & crafts workshop for kids which really was a lovely addition to the day. It encouraged the attendees to explore their creative side and take a little bit of serenity as the day progressed. Being the hottest day in Bangalore was definitely a challenge faced but as the day progressed the evening encouraged a lot more people to venture into the market hunting for their treasures. Lushly, managed to snag some furry little customers that were all excited with their own vendors to explore! One of the vendors, Unleash Wellness had products specifically for Cats & Dogs that promote good gut health and hygiene. Lushly is committed to supporting local business owners and artists by providing them with a platform to showcase their products. The company plans to host more markets in the future with plans for designer pop-ups and curated product exhibitions.

It has left the world paralysed and the grave scenario has put everyone under a blanket of melancholy. However, living it is a stark reality that everyone is facing on a daily basis. Everything seems to have come to a literal standstill. Businesses and educational institutes are relying heavily on the digital space for virtual meetings, classes and interactions. Technology is a boon during these times especially where face to face interactions are not possible. Making the most of the lockdown through creative and technological initiatives is a prolific design institute that is always ahead in its educational endeavors – JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Bangalore. The institute and its students are leading the way in adapting to the new situation alongwith participating in creative ideas to amp up their morale. Sitting at home is no party for the students as the faculties have ensured that classes remain on course through online streaming and assignments. Apart from working on class related projects, the final year students have been steadily prepping for the yearly extravaganza held by JD Institute – JD Annual Design Awards. The event is a platform provided to the students to present some innovative designs which go through a grueling short listing process by internal and external jury. Inorder to help students reach their optimum this time round, mentors are monitoring their students work online by providing them feedback to refine their work to help them save their time and spring into action as soon as the lockdown is called off. Student Work                            Faculty and students also got together to prepare an online collage to spread the message on staying at home inorder to stay safe. Observing the insufficiency of masks, Jeevitha Gowda, a Post Graduate Diploma in Fashion and Business Management, rolled on her sleeves and plunged into action to help prepare masks which she distributed to people in need. To keep their creative juices flowing, the students also participated in a weekly creative challenge #McQueenCreators posed by the renowned house of Alexander McQueen. The challenge required a presentation of creating 3D flowers with materials readily available at one’s homes. Students used steel spoons and foil, net, craft paper etc. to create the flowers. Whereas, Sushmitha Nagarkoti, a BSc. in Fashion and Apparel Design alumnus of JD Institute, participated in a juti design contest organised by Needledust. Summer Exodus hosted at The Emerald Store on Ulsoor Road, Bangalore was celebrated to pay tribute to womanhood and much more. On the occasion of International Women’s Day 2020, The Emerald Store Bangalore curated a one-of-a-kind event where beautiful plus-sized women walked the ramp and flaunted their curves with confidence and poise, shattering the prejudice of body shaming and empowering confidence in one’s self. At the event, conceptualised and curated by Anjum Azeez and Sabrina Dutta, the women celebrated their personal blueprint, which drove home the point that no woman should ever be made to feel inferior because of shape, size, colour or unique individual characteristics. It was a spectacular event which also showcased the Avirate line of fashion with women donning the collection and accessories. Nasreen Sait invited women from all walks of life to come together and celebrate International Women’s Day at Safina Banquets, Safina Plaza, Bangalore. A day synonomous for empowerment, growth and oneness, it was a day to honour the spirit of a woman. There were different activities, speakers, workshops and also a fashion walk. Nuzhath Ayaz gave a talk on mind, body and soul. Yoga teacher Divya Nichani, a certified Iyengar yoga teacher taught a few quick Yogasanas. There was also a soft launch of the book named Raqs by Shaista Yacoob, who spoke about Rumi followed by Sagarika talking on her travels to Kutch.
