Origins and Early Years (1920s–1940s)
Jaguar was actually the Swallow Sidecar Company making motorcycle sidecars. In 1935, it became Jaguar Cars, the first proper Jaguar, the SS series. Of these, the SS 100 was in a class of its own and for what I know, still portrayed as one of the most beautiful cars ever built. After World War II, Jaguar, like every other manufacturer, resumed production but was more focused on producing military vehicles.
Actually, this was the era when Jaguar took their place on the world map with such models the XK120, so powerful that they were driving most of the tracks at the race circuits. In 1961, the legendary E-Type Jaguar was developed, which immediately became the car of the 1960s, and it also did not leave the connoisseurs indifferent by its fashion design and strong power. It also marked the commitment of Jaguar to technological innovation with the introduction of the monocoque chassis and other advanced engineering.
Challenges and Change in Ownership (1970s -1990s)
The 1970s and 1980s were really trying times for Jaguar. The company was deeply in debt, and British Leyland bought it in 1968. Modern Era and Resurgence of the Luxury (2000s-Present)
Tata acquired Jaguar in 2008. For those not in the loop, in that 2019 time frame, they had brought out the XF, F-Type, and Jaguar’s first ever wholly electric car, the I-Pace, striving to be as green as possible without missing out on performance. The company moved its focus towards being the ideal choice for high-tech cars, plush interiors, and eco-friendly varieties such as hybrids and electric powertrains.
