NOUN Opens in Goa: A Retail Residency Where Objects Tell Stories by Roma Narsinghani in collaboration with Shreya Sharma

NOUN Opens in Goa: A Retail Residency Where Objects Tell Stories by Roma Narsinghani in collaboration with Shreya Sharma

Goa welcomes a new space for reflection and craft with the opening of NOUN, a retail residency for the craft-led in the quiet lanes of Siolim. More than a store, NOUN behaves like a living edit — an ever-evolving space where makers, materials, and stories intersect to explore how we live with objects and what they remember about us. Designed as a sensory, contemplative experience, the 753 sq. ft. space sits beside Mizu Izakaya, surrounded by tropical light and paddy fields, inviting visitors to pause, touch, and listen. Envisioned by Future Collective India — the responsible design platform founded by Roma Narsinghani — in collaboration with Shreya Sharma, who designed and co-curates the space, NOUN continues the Collective’s experiments at the intersection of craft, culture, and commerce. Their past initiatives like The Conscious Culture Fair and Shelter have shaped India’s evolving design discourse, and with NOUN, they propose a new kind of retail — one that values context as much as craft, and dialogue as much as display. Each chapter at NOUN acts as a new lens through which to experience design. Its opening edition, “Muscle Memory” (Nov 1 – Dec 15, 2025), examines how repetition, rhythm, and embodied knowledge shape both makers and objects, featuring craft-led brands including Helm, Lafaani, Kastoor, LMNOH, Chola, Begum Sitara Baroodi, Project Qaafi amongst others. The following chapter, “Better Daze” (Dec 18, 2025 – Jan 31, 2026), reflects on Goa’s duality — its nostalgia for better days and its search for better ways — through local and sustainable makers like Button Masala, Malai Biomaterials, Manish Arora, PIEUX and more. Material, scent, and sound come together to turn retail into reflection. Among NOUN’s material collaborators is the construction company, Solarpunk Futures with their Dhartee Bricks, made from excavated soil and sawdust, feature in a modular table installation that brings Solarpunk’s circular, locally grounded design philosophy into NOUN’s space. Wood forms by Lakkad, plant-based fragrances by Kastoor and their immersive installation ‘The Air Remembers’ that invites visitors to explore scent as memory, and teas by Anandini Himalaya Tea that complete the sensory experience. As Roma Narsinghani notes, “We didn’t want to build another concept store, but a context-driven space where people remember how to look, touch, and listen.” NOUN opens its doors on November 7, 2025, in Siolim, Goa up until 15th December.

Keerthy Suresh Begins Her Happily Ever After On A Stylish Note

Keerthy Suresh Begins Her Happily Ever After On A Stylish Note

Keerthy Suresh had a dreamy wedding to marry Antony Thattil in Goa. The fans were given pictures of her traditional Hindu ceremony, not with one, but with two special saree looks. In case there wasn’t already much for her fans to be thrilled about, she recently shared pictures from the Christian ceremony where she looked just as gorgeous. Keerthy Suresh & Her Fairytale Wedding Gown It was the fairytale white wedding in a halter-neck gown that had lace applique work in it, a creation from Zuhair Murad. The beautiful delicate lace over the pure white flowing fabric created dimension for this enchanting wedding attire far beyond the ordinary as it has been. And this dress comes in an A-line silhouette, all of which matches with each of the elements around it. Jewellery And Makeup Her equally beautiful sheer white veil matched her dress with the same embroidery. For the jewelry, she chose emerald stud earrings. Her makeup was minimalist yet elegantly chic, complete with neutral tones and her hair was styled in a pulled-back half updo. The entire wedding look was brought together with an eye for detail, minimalistic style and lots of love. South Indian Bridal Ensemble The wedding festivities began with two Hindu ceremonies. For the first one, she wore a contrasting yellow and green Kanjeevaram saree designed by Anita Dongre. The wedding saree although extraordinary in style in terms of the conventional reds, also had a special significance. The bride added personal touches to it with a poem woven into it. The jewellery was quintessential to the South Indian bride complete with the layered necklaces and arm and hair jewellery.   The Beloved Red Saree  The Indian bride, however, cannot stay away from the bridal red for too long. Another special ode on her wedding day had to do with her deep red saree seen in the next leg of the festivities. The saree, worn with a matching blouse, belonged to her mother and was the bride’s way of honouring her mother’s love and life. She had teamed it up with a gorgeous ornate diamond and ruby jewellery set that complimented the reds of the saree look.

Goa’s Timeless Charm: Rediscovering Leisure with Palmeiras de Saligao

Set on India’s picturesque coastline, idyllic Goa has long been known for its rich cultural heritage, vibrant landscapes and sunny beaches, attracting travelers from all over the world. This tropical paradise is a treasure trove of historic buildings, testifying to the region’s colonial past under Portuguese rule.    In recent years, the restoration of Portuguese-influenced Goan homes has emerged as a fascinating way to preserve the region’s heritage while offering visitors an unparalleled journey back in time. The trend celebrates the fusion of Portuguese and Indian aesthetics, resulting in a unique blend of architecture, décor and atmosphere that effortlessly transports guests to a bygone era.  In this article we embark on a journey to explore Goan houses with Portuguese influence, particularly focusing on Palmeiras de Saligao:  Goa, historically captured by the Portuguese on 10th December 1510, marked Portugal’s first territorial possession in Asia. As the Portuguese expanded their influence in the region, places like Malacca,  Indonesia, East Timor, the Persian Gulf, Macau, and Japan came under their control. The cultural  exchange resulting from these travels left a lasting impact on the architecture of old Goan homes.    In the pre-Portuguese era, dwellings in Goa were shaped by various socio-cultural factors, materials,  technology, and climate. Factors such as occupation, family type (unitary or joint), gender roles,  customs, religious practices, and economic status influenced the design of houses. Most of these  traditional homes were introverted and conservative, organized around a central courtyard, with a  focus on internal functions and few external windows.    The arrival of the Portuguese introduced a new architectural style to Goa. The early secular buildings  were constructed in the “Cha” style, featuring planar structures with windows and doors on one flat  level. These buildings had a utilitarian design, resembling military architecture with a fortified  appearance, similar to Portuguese forts. However, many of these structures built before the 1700s  were not well-suited to the local climate and conditions.    The Souza Figueiredo House in Sequeira Vaddo, Saligao, is an example of an eclectic architectural style  seen in Goa since the 1930s. Elements of Victorian, Art and Craftsman style, and Art Deco were fused  with the Indo-Portuguese style in this mansion. The inspiration for its design seems to have been drawn  from the Mansion of Marcos Alvaro de Sa in Ribandar, near the old Medical hospital, belonging to the  influential De Sa family, who were Barons of Combarjua and held significant sway in the local Goan  community.    The Palmeiras de Saligao, formerly the Souza Figueiredo Mansion, underwent renovation in April 2021  when it was purchased by VM Salgoacar Corporation Private Limited. The restoration project, initiated  by Mr. Dattaraj Salgaocar, Chairman of the company, aimed to preserve the architectural character of  the house while incorporating modern amenities. The mansion now comprises an entrance porch,  entrance room, large drawing room, dining room, study, four bedrooms with ensuite facilities, rear  porch, kitchen, store, and utility. An earlier outhouse has been transformed into a club house, and a  gym has been added, along with staff quarters at the rear. The restoration maintained continuity by  replicating elements like decorative columns in the extensions and integrating new roofs with the older  ones using identical construction techniques and materials.      Throughout the restoration process, the interiors were completed using existing furniture, and efforts  were made to preserve the Victorian ceramic flooring tiles, with cement tiles used where necessary.  The property boasts a spacious rear courtyard adorned with several trees, providing a private and  tranquil atmosphere. The result is a splendid example of adapting a 20th-century house for modern  living while preserving its original charm and grandeur.    ABOUT AMA STAYS AND TRAILS  Amã Stays & Trails is a group of heritage bungalows, guesthouses and villas at unique locations across  the country. Each homestay showcases the local culture and heritage of the destination through  authentic and immersive experiences.
