Mumbai welcomes Dakshin Legacy, a fine-dining restaurant devoted exclusively to the authentic coastal cuisines of South India. Rooted in tradition and built on emotion, Dakshin Legacy brings together time-honoured recipes, soulful hospitality, and evocative design to create a dining experience that preserves heritage rather than reinventing it.

Positioned as Mumbai’s only fine-dining destination focused solely on coastal South Indian food, Dakshin Legacy presents dishes from Mangalore, Kerala, Goa, and Tamil Nadu, cooked exactly the way generations before us prepared and loved them. The kitchen follows age-old techniques such as stone-ground masalas, clay-pot slow simmering, hand-pressed coconut milk, and banana-leaf steaming, with regional spices sourced directly from the southern coastline. The result is food that is bold, honest, and deeply rooted with no fusion, no shortcuts, and no dilution of flavour.

The culinary programme is led by Chef Nagesh, whose approach to coastal cuisine is grounded in patience, memory, and deep respect for tradition. Each curry, masala, and seafood preparation follows ancestral techniques, allowing flavours to develop naturally and authentically. The menu features a carefully curated selection of signature dishes that showcase the diversity of coastal cooking, including the fiery Crab Chettinad, the aromatic Pomfret Gassi with freshly ground coconut masala, the bold Prawns Ghee Roast, the spice-forward Surmai Masala Fry, and the intensely flavourful Clams Sukka, where roasted spices and fresh coconut come together in perfect balance.

Complementing the food is Dakshin Legacy’s coastal-inspired bar programme led by Saroj, who translates familiar South Indian flavours into contemporary cocktails. Drawing from ingredients such as kokum, fresh fruits, herbs, and gentle spices, the cocktail menu adds a playful yet rooted dimension to the dining experience. Highlights include Reddy on the Rocks, a smooth whiskey cocktail layered with tropical fruit and butterscotch notes; Chiranjeevi Kidu, a crisp, refreshing gin-based blend of cucumber and ginger; Bahubali Burst, a bold rum cocktail with kokum, peach, chat masala, and a fizzy finish; Lungi Dance, a vibrant gin cocktail infused with curry leaves, amla, and blue curaçao; and Rajni Kudampuli, a sharp vodka cocktail balanced with kokum, cranberry, chat masala, and ginger ale.

Designed by hotelier and founder Harshita Shetty, Dakshin Legacy’s interiors are a warm, soulful tribute to South India’s coastal homes. Spanning 4,800 sq. ft. with 150 seating covers, the space blends teakwood and cane accents, brass and bell-metal details, antique Mangalorean window frames, banana-leaf inspired motifs, and handloom-style textures. A calming palette of ivory, sandalwood, deep green, and gold creates an atmosphere that transitions seamlessly from relaxed lunches to refined fine-dining evenings.

“With Dakshin Legacy, I wanted to create a space that feels like a homecoming, where the warmth of coastal tradition meets the polish of fine dining. The design doesn’t reinvent heritage; it preserves it with heart,” says Harshita Shetty.

Led by Harshita Shetty, a Les Roches–trained second-generation hotelier –  the restaurant reflects a deeply personal journey, blending global hospitality expertise with a strong sense of cultural responsibility.
